On Saturday, June 7, 2008 over 20 kiteboarders and their family members gathered to clean up the beach and surrounding area at Terrapin Nature Park in Queen Anne’s County, Maryland. The event was the second annual park clean up organized by members of the local kiteboarding forum EASTKB with the support of Park Superintendent Gary Rzepecki. Volunteers braved heat index values well into the triple digits to improve the beauty of the park. Sandwiches from the Love Point Deli were graciously provided by the kiting shop H2Air.com for lunch, and a prize drawing was held with prizes provided by local kite school Ospreykitesports.com. Many bags of garbage and recyclables were collected over the course of the day, as were hundreds of pounds of driftwood and other beach debris. The driftwood will be chipped up for use by the park.
Kiteboarders and their families contributed over 65 hours of service to show their appreciation for the park.
