The Maryland Transportation Authority approved an increase to E-ZPass costs. Large trucks and other multi-axle vehicles will now pay from $2 to $13 more in tolls. EZ-Pass customers also will pay $1.50 a month to use their transponders, and there will be charges to replace a transponder or to acquire a new transponder. Standard and commuter toll rates will stay the same. The state will give multi-axle trucks a 10-percent discount if they make more than 100 trips per month. The agency said toll revenues go toward a $3.8-billion six-year capital program that includes safety, preservation, customer service and improvement projects. The increase is expected to generate about $60-million more a year. The toll increase takes effect this spring.
