Matapeake Clubhouse and Beach Grand Opening

Queen Anne’s County officially opened the Matapeake Clubhouse and Beach, April 26 on Kent Island, off of Route 8 south. The renovated clubhouse is an old ferry terminal that once served passengers traveling to and from the Sandy Point terminal on the western shore.

Inside this newly transformed space is a full service snack bar and ample seating for dining and relaxing. Outdoor seating is available during the warmer months. The café menu features hot and cold sandwiches, salads, assorted snack items and other casual fare.

Matapeake Beach on the Chesapeake Bay is the county’s first public beach. Parking and use of the beach are free. The beach grounds include a sandy beach with fabulous views of the Bay Bridge, an outdoor amphitheater, trails through the surrounding woods, and a family picnic area. The beach is also accessible from the Kent Island South Trail, making it an ideal spot to walk or bike to

The QAC Department of Parks and Recreation plans to use the venue for outdoor movie nights, concerts, evenings by the bay and other recreational opportunities for the community.

Additionally, both the clubhouse and the grounds will be available to rent for weddings, corporate events, family gatherings, or other private parties. For information call 410-758-0835 ext. 2517.
