Mid-Shore Teachers Rank Among Lowest Paid In State

Average salaries for Maryland’s public school teachers increased to $62,849, representing a yearly boost of almost 5-percent. Included in the 2008-2009 annual Analysis of Professional Salaries issued by the state education department is a listing of the average salaries of teachers in the 24 school systems. At the top is Montgomery County with $74,382. Dorchester County teachers ranked 24th with an average salary of $53,583. Eight of the nine school systems on the Maryland Eastern Shore rank among the ten lowest and include: Talbot County at $54,715 is 20th; Queen Anne’s County ranked 22nd at $54,592; Kent County ranked 16th at $57,329; Caroline County at $54,624 ranked 21st; and, Worcester County ranked seventh with $60,880.
