The Miles River Open Readings will feature as its invited reader on December 19th, Annabel Young, a talented young poet and fiction writer.
Annabel Young is an honor student at Gunston day school where she was awarded a merit scholarship. At school, Annabel participates in drama club, chorale and environmental club. She rows on the varsity crew team and races in numerous regattas throughout the year. She is also on the yearbook committee and was recently selected as the only sophomore student to serve on an administrative board to examine how the Gunston campus can improve its environmental policies.
Annabel is a participant in the John’s Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, and was awarded special recognition for her statewide high score on the Verbal SAT. She was the recipient of a Gold Key Award in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in 2008 in the short story category. She has also volunteered throughout her middle and high school years at Pickering Creek Audubon Center, where she serves a junior counselor each summer. Annabel enjoys singing in Easton with the Tidewater Chamber Singers, a selective audition only group who perform throughout the Eastern Shore.
