“A minivan that police said left the scene of a traffic stop on Route 50 hit two police cars and clipped the porch of a house before winding up in the yard of a home in a quiet waterfront community. Maryland Transportation Authority Police Sgt. Jonathan Green said the incident began when an officer stopped a Ford Windstar minivan on Route 50 east in Stevensville for a traffic violation on the Bay Bridge.

“”The passenger got out and sat on the railing and the driver drove off and we pursued him,”” Green said. A Maryland State Trooper joined in the pursuit and the two police vehicles followed the minivan onto Chester River Beach Road and down Chester River Drive, according to a state police statement. At the end of Chester River Drive, the minivan turned left onto Stoney Bar Bluff Road, which dead-ends after a short distance, drove between two houses, around three others, and came back onto the road and went the other way, also a dead-end. The minivan then turned around, re-traced its route and struck a Maryland Transportation Authority police cruiser in the driveway of 110 Stoney Bluff Bar Road. It then clipped the porch of the house and came to rest in the yard.

The minivan’s driver was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. State police identified the minivan driver as Ronald Armstrong, 54, of Baltimore. They said he was taken into custody by MdTA police and charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and malicious destruction of property over $500. The initial investigation showed that Armstrong was fleeing due to two outstanding warrants and a suspended license.
