Hand knitting has gained in popularity over the last few years, and this trend continues as more and more people discover how relaxing and rewarding it is to make hand-worked clothing and accessories. Join fun and funny fiber artist, Patricia Gerhardt and lean the basic stitches and techniques that will have you creating a knitted masterpieces in no time. This is a two-day class held on Saturday, March 21 and 28 from 10am to 2pm at the Centre for the Arts in Centreville, Maryland. The class fee is $75 ($65 for Arts Council members). There is a $10 materials fee to be paid to the instructor on the first day of class. The deadline for registration is March 13.

Gerhardt learned to knit at the age of 9 and immediately began knitting self-designed sweaters for her dolls. She insists that these first garments ‘weren’t much’ but they marked the beginning of a lifelong love affair with fiber arts. In addition to her experience with hand knitting, she is past president of the local rug hooking guild and a founding member of Centreville’s Wild Wooly Women knitting group.

The Centre for the arts classes are designed to renew existing artistic interests, and to develop new skills.
