The skipjack Nathan of Dorchester sailed across the Chesapeake Bay last weekend to take part in Historic St. Mary’s City’s 375th anniversary celebration. Together with the skipjack Dee of St. Mary’s and buy boat Samuel M. Bailey, she took passengers out for sails on the St. Mary’s River, dodging rain squalls and high winds through much of the five-day trip.
Cambridge’s ambassador skipjack was in good company at the St. Mary’s docks with tall ships including the Dove,Kalmar Nyckel and Sultana, shown here with the Nathan.
She has returned home to Long Wharf and will be participating in Cambridge’s own 325th anniversary celebration on Saturday, July 4, which also marks the fifteenth anniversary of the Nathan’s launching in 1994.
Two free sails will be offered at noon and 1 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. The Nathan will lead the annual Cambridge Fourth of July Boat Parade at 4 p.m.
