Grasonville Senior Center is celebrating National Senior Center Month during the month of September. Area seniors are invited to visit the center to learn of all the opportunities available at the senior center. Highlights include sampling a variety of fitness classes and meeting the instructors, viewing art exhibits of projects created in the centers art classes, a members heart shaped rock collection will be on display, a special oil painting session will be held and visitors can get a peek at the new more spacious fitness room. Refreshments will be served and participants can enter to win a special gift basket. In addition to these, a Volunteer Munch & Mingle is planned to honor the centers wonderful volunteers.
Each week begins with Yoga on Monday mornings at 9:30, Certified instructor Rose Spik is always glad to welcome beginners to the class. Country Line Dance lessons on Monday afternoon are led by talented instructor Betty Hull. Participants can view an interesting Cordiform Collection of heart shaped rocks and talk with the owner / collector on Monday Sept. 15 as well. Each Tuesday, Certified instructor Barbara Raflo will lead her famous Rock’n Aerobics class, Pilates on the Ball class and Arthritis Exercise class. Getting fit has never been more fun! A special Oil Painting Session with artist Joan Clay is planned for Tuesday as well. Advance Registration for the Oil Painting session is required. Wednesday Sept. 17 offers an opportunity to meet the art instructors and students as they showcase the many creative projects made in the art classes at the center. Art Instructors and students will be available to answer questions and enlighten beginners of just how easy the classes are. A Members Best Exhibit will be on display and will feature examples from Ceramics, China Painting, Glass Painting, Colors for Earth, Oil Painting, Baltimore Screen Painting, Basic Drawing, Oil Rouging, and Printmaking classes. In addition there will be a monthly meeting of the Memoir Club, whose members inspire each other to complete journaling, photo albums, and scrapbooking. Each Thursday brings the opportunity to try Tai Chi and learn about its origin. This ancient art form is lead by Master Jordon Tuller who will be on hand to answer questions. Center members play bingo each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning beginning at 9:30am. Friday Sept. 5 will highlight a Celebration Bingo with special prizes. Other regular activities include shopping, bowling, gardening tips, Little Purls knitting group, and a monthly senior social / luncheon.
