Helping Kids Go Green

Her background in education and life-long interest in environmental issues, inspired Maureen Fleshman to create a Pre-K class that focuses on repurposing everyday items into works of art. “The Littlest Crafters” is a four-week adventure with a different purpose and project each week. The first class starts with a story about a cardboard box which leads to the creation of treasure boxes by each student. Week two incorporates the use of a spaghetti jar, tissue, ribbons and beads into the making of a lovely decoupage candle for Mother’s Day. Additional classes combine games created by using items found in the house and in nature, and making music with water bottles. Each class is organized to keep little hands busy, and young minds creative.

Class begins on Friday, May 1st and runs from 10 to 10:45 a.m. The cost is $25 for Arts Council members and $30 for non-members. Classes are held at the Centre for the Arts in Centreville, Maryland. The deadline for registration is April 24.
