No Criminal Charges In Bay Bridge Tractor-Trailer Fatal Crash

A Maryland woman who says she was asleep at the wheel just before a deadly crash on the Bay Bridge this past August will not face criminal charges. Queen Anne’s County State’s Attorney Frank Kratovil says 19-year-old Candy Baldwin of Millington will have to deal with three traffic citations. Early on the morning of August 10th, Baldwin’s car crossed the center line on the westbound span causing 57-year-old tractor-trailer driver John Short Sr. to take evasive maneuvers, which led to his rig crashing through the side of the bridge and into the Chesapeake Bay. Baldwin injured her kneecaps, spleen and liver in the accident. Toxicology results show she had alcohol in her system, but not enough to exceed the legal limit.
