Redistricting to create side-by-side schools serving first through fifth grade at Kent Island and Bayside Elementary Schools will not happen for the 2009-2010 school year, Superintendent of Schools Carol Williamson told the QAC Board of Education at the March meeting. With the renovation of Kent Island Elementary almost complete and work scheduled to begin at Bayside Elementary July 1, school officials have been looking for ways to reconfigure the schools for 2009-2010. Redistricting was one of three options outlined during the school board’s February 18 work session. The other two options are still under consideration as interim solutions for the coming year. The board may take up redistricting again in late summer when they will need to make a decision on the permanent configurations for the two schools. The school board will hold a public meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on March 19 at KIES to discuss the options. The board may vote on an interim solution at their next regular meeting April 1.
