OC Couple Pleads Guilty To Tax Evasion & Illegal Hiring

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says a couple who owns two restaurants in Ocean City pleaded guilty to evading taxes and unlawfully employing illegal immigrants. Bo Hao Zhu, 33, pleaded guilty to evading taxes, and 30-year-old Siu Ping Cheng pleaded guilty to unlawfully employing aliens. Zhu and partners pleaded guilty to alien harboring and inducing aliens to reside in the United States. Zhu owned and operated the Miyako Sushi and Seafood Buffet and Panda China Buffet restaurants. In February 2005, a bank worker saw Cheng depositing large amounts of cash into Panda Buffet’s accounts, according to court documents. Agents with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement also saw several people, believed to be illegal immigrants, traveling in Zhu’s vehicle from Panda Buffet to Zhu and Cheng’s condominium. As part of their plea agreement, the defendants agreed to forfeit their interests in Miyako. A sentencing hearing will be conducted in September.
