It has been one year since the state announced a legal settlement involving the Genovique chemical plant on the Chester River. Part of that settlement involved the company cleaning up long-standing pollution problems, but Genovique has not yet complied. The plant’s parent company in Illinois continues to file disputes with the state. Published reports say Chester Riverkeeper Tom Leigh does not know why cleanup is taking so long since water contamination issues were first detected as long as 20 years ago.
