The Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff and the Traffic Safety Coordinator conducted a Sobriety Check Point as part of the ongoing education and enforcement efforts from the Safety Office and Law Enforcement in our county.

On Saturday, September 20th, a Sobriety Check Point was conducted by members of the Queen Anne’s Office of the Sheriff contacting Six Hundred Sixty-one (661) motorists as they passed through. Eleven field sobriety tests were conducted by deputies to assure alcohol was not involved and drivers were released. Sheriff’s K-9 units were also part of the check point operation.

Sheriff Gery Hofmann attended the briefing prior to the check point operation. Sheriff Hofmann complemented his deputies for their involvement in reducing serious injuries and fatalities along our roadways. “”Keeping our motorists safe and out of harms way is an essential part of policing””. “”Our agency wants to assure motorists that law enforcement is doing their part to eliminate the impaired driver from our roadways””.

The Sheriff’s Office along with State Police and the Natural Resources Police Department have worked well together to achieve our goal for reducing injuries and fatalities with Queen Anne’s County”” said Sheriff Hofmann. Saturation Patrols were also conducted by the Sheriff’s Deputies, State Police and Natural Resources Police throughout the county. Terry Ober, Traffic Safety Coordinator stated “”Our efforts are ongoing and will continue throughout the holidays. I ask motorists to be aware and to report impaired driving immediately so law enforcement can continue doing their part””. Mr. Ober further stated, “”Having the public’s support and involvement is a must for everyone’s safety””.”
