Callie Pinto, BSN, RN, CDE, has joined the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Shore Health System as diabetes educator. She is responsible for outpatient education programs that help individuals manage their symptoms following a diabetes diagnosis.
Pinto earned a bachelor’s of science in biology from William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri and a bachelor’s of science in nursing from Baylor University in Dallas, Texas. A registered nurse for over 30 years, she has been a certified diabetes educator since 1994.
A resident of Oxford, Pinto relocated to the Eastern Shore from California, where she developed and implemented a diabetes education and outreach program for the Tuolumne Me-Wuk Indian Health Center. She provided health and nutrition evaluations and education within a clinic setting and through home visits, working with individuals to assist them as they set and attained their personal health goals. Her experience also includes diabetes education, home health and hospice nursing assignments for public and private healthcare organizations in California and Maryland.
Pinto is a member of the American Diabetes Association and the American Association of Diabetes Educators.
The Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Shore Health System is scheduled to open at The Memorial Hospital at Easton later this year. Nancy Barger, RN, CDE, manager of the Joslin Diabetes Center, says, “We are delighted to have Callie as a part of the team. Her expertise and experience as a diabetes educator will be an invaluable benefit to the patients, community and staff.
