“State Senator E.J. Pipkin renewed his call for an independent inspection of the Bay Bridge, citing a recent incident in which a protective fiberglass sleeve from the bridge was found floating in the Bay. The fiberglass sleeve had been in the water since the winter storm in early March. Pipkin said the Maryland Transportation Authority has failed to restore public confidence and Bay Bridge users remain unconvinced the bridge is safe. Pipkin said in the news release the discovery of the fiberglass sleeve in the Bay “”further proves the need for an immediate independent inspection of all seven bridge construction components, all the elements of the superstructure and substructure, using the latest technology.”””
