Kent Island Federation of Arts is pleased to announce an Introduction to Pastels
Instructor: Mary Pritchard
Following a career in education administration at the University of Delaware, she returned to painting fulltime. An award-winning pastel artist, she is known for her landscapes of the Eastern Shore. Galleries representing her work include Bishop’s Stock, Snow Hill, Md.; Carla Massoni Gallery, Chestertown, Md.; and the Station Gallery, Greenville, De.
Three day workshop, Tuesday, June 9 though Thursday June 11th; 9 am to 4 pm. This classroom–based workshop is for beginners and others who want to explore this flexible and forgiving medium. Students will be introduced to a variety of pastels, painting surfaces and pastel techniques. Students will use three different surfaces and learn a cost-effective way to make their own pastel surfaces. Demonstrations and critiques are part of this lively workshop. Students will work from still life set ups or photographs. The workshop will cover techniques for using photos and improving compositions, while helping students develop their unique viewpoints and creative approaches to the pastel medium.
Students will supply their own pastels and Canson paper, based on instructor’s supply list. Instructor will supply additional pastels and surfaces for students to use. Material fee is $10, payable to instructor. Fee for class $130 for members and $150 for non members. Please register by May 22nd.
