Queen Anne’s County commissioners held three school budget hearings so the public can comment on the upcoming school budget. Public school officials are looking for another $600,000 in county money for the school system’s fiscal 2010 budget, but commissioners say that will not happen. Schools are expected to get a little more than $48-million out of the county’s nearly $109-million proposed budget. School board members say the school system has already made cuts, including eliminating 15 positions and five furlough days for all employees, for which the school system should be rewarded. Commissioners say things are tight and the school system is lucky to get what it is getting.
