QA Commissioners In Dispute Over Pool; Tackle Other Issues

Chesapeake College wants to close the swimming pool this summer because it does not have the money to maintain it. Queen Anne’s County commissioners want a moratorium on most new building construction at the school until the school has a plan that is both approved and funded for maintaining existing buildings and equipment. College president Dr. Barbara Biniar will have to retrieve all the paperwork on the pool for the last few years to show that it is beyond repair and should be shut down.

The county also will apply for some $800,000 in state money to build a housing shelter for the homeless and to build up its critical workforce housing program. Members of the QA Christian alliance support the grant since their churches now house the homeless in the winter months, primarily out of KIUMC in Chester.
