“The Month of the Young Child Poster Contest sponsored by the Queen Anne’s county Early Childhood Committee is officially underway. Fliers were sent home with elementary-age children and circulated through area day care centers. The contest is for children from age 2 through second grade, competing in two age divisions. Each winner receives a $50 saving bond from Centreville National Bank. Copies of the winning posters will be reproduced and distributed around the county as part of the Month of the Young Child celebration in April.
Participants are asked to complete the following sentence: “”I like to spend my time outside by …”” and draw a picture to illustrate their answer. For children too young to write legibly, an adult may print what the child says on the poster for them. Posters are to be designed on a regular 8-1/2- by 11-inch piece of paper. Children may use markers, crayons, colored pencils or paint.
Children should place their name, age, address, phone number and the name of their school or day care center on the back of their entry. Entries may be dropped off at local elementary schools, county libraries, child care centers, or at The Bay Times office at 1101 Butterworth Court, Suite 100 in Stevensville, or Record Observer at 114 Broadway in Centreville. The deadline for entries is February 27.
