On Saturday, April 25, 2009, the Queen Anne’s Chorale will present its annual Spring Gala concert, entitled “April Fools”. The performance will be held at The Todd Performing Arts Center, Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, MD and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
As the title implies, this concert will explore humor in music. The program has been designed to “tickle your funny bone” and bring smiles and giggles from the audience! Repertoire includes “The Saints Preserve Us!” which will pay musical tribute to Saint Aquacia (Patroness of washing machines) and Saint Celsius (Patron of thermostats), among others. Another selection will be Four Historical settings of Mary and her Lamb presented in the styles of Gregorian chant, G.F.Handel, Franz Schubert, and Giuseppe Verdi. Several solos and duets will feature “Little Miss Muffet”, “Some Little Bug”, Rossini’s famous “Cat Duet”, and a selection by PDQ Bach. Other music includes spoofs on pieces by F. J. Haydn and J. S. Bach. Every selection has been chosen to delight and entertain the entire family!
The Queen Anne’s Chorale currently has 67 members and its artistic director of 6 years is Bob Huntington. Mr. Huntington has carefully designed this particular program to further challenge the Chorale’s musicality and present unusual and clever pieces for audience enlightenment.
Part of the mission statement of the Queen Anne’s Chorale is to “enhance the lives of Bay Area residents through a variety of quality choral music”. Along with this spring concert, the Chorale will be presenting concerts throughout the community at large: On April 20, a concert will again be presented at William Hill Manor in Easton. On May 6, the Chorale will perform at Centreville Middle School; and on July 4th, it will perform at the Independence Day ceremonies at Wye Mills’ Aspen Institute, sponsored by the Queen Anne’s County Historical Society.
Tickets for the April 25th concert at Chesapeake College are $10.00 each and can be purchased at the door. Children through high school are admitted free.
All concert venues are handicapped accessible.
