Over the course of the weekend, thousands of dogs will participate in conformation, obedience and rally competitions. In conformation judging, each dog is judged according to the AKC standard for the breed. Temperament, appearance, soundness, and the ability to do the work for which the breed was intended is assessed by judges. In obedience trials dogs will perform a variety of exercises including heeling, sitting, staying, and even jumping and retrieving, hoping to earn a perfect score of 200 points. Rally competitions also test each dog’s ability to react to a certain set of commands.

The Salisbury Kennel Club Dog Show will kick off Friday, November 7 at 8 a.m. Judging for the Best in Show will begin between 4 and 5 p.m. A Best Bred by Exhibitor will also be awarded Friday evening. The Salisbury Kennel Club Dog Show will continue on Saturday, November 8 beginning at 8 a.m. The day’s events include the awarding of the Best Puppy in Show.

The weekend will conclude with the Mispillion Kennel Club Dog Show on Sunday, November 9. Beginning at 8 a.m., this show will benefit the Dr. William Spence Memorial Veterinary Scholarship Fund. This fund awards $2,000 to a Delaware student enrolled in a school of veterinary medicine and $500 to a Delaware student enrolled in the veterinary technician program at Delaware Technical and Community College in Georgetown.

Additional attractions of the weekend include raffles and over 40 vendors selling dog related gifts, supplies, and equipment.
