The Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office recently received numerous citizen complaints regarding telephone solicitations by subjects representing themselves as members of the Sheriff’s Office or local law enforcement. The callers, who reportedly were rude and unprofessional, are not affiliated with the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office is not conducting any fund-raising or making requests of citizens or businesses to make donations. It does appear that a special interest group with police officers as members has hired an outside company to solicit the citizens and businesses of Queen Anne’s County in order to fund their own endeavors and treasury. Neither Sheriff R. Gery Hofmann nor the Office of Sheriff for Queen Anne’s County approves in any way of the fund raising activities that are being conducted at this time.
