Squeezing 45 minutes into an already busy schedule can be nearly impossible for most area residents who are already spending up to three hours just to get to work and back. Factor in trying to make an appointment that you dread because of fear and it is easy to see why many people skip making that appointment for the dentist altogether. Statistically in any given year up to 40 percent of the U.S. population does not see a dentist due to fear alone.
One area dental practice is reaching out to both fearful and time-stressed patients through a sedation dentistry open house on Thursday, September 10 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The event will be hosted by the staff at Smiles By Holsinger & Higgins, 10646 River Road, Denton.
The program is designed to provide information in a casual setting with the practice’s staff and actual patients available to address questions and concerns. Attendees will receive an information packet, which includes a certificate for a complimentary new patient exam and xrays valued at $249. The free event also includes refreshments. Space is limited.
Information provided at the event will focus on sedation dentistry and oral conscious sedation. As the name suggests, oral conscious sedation uses an oral medication to help a patient relax.
“Despite knowing that dental health impact overall health many patients have difficulty coming to the dental due to fear. In fact 90 million people are fearful of the dentist,” says Patricia E. Higgins, D.D.S. “We help our fearful patients get the care they need in an non-judgmental and relaxing environment,” she adds.
“Sedation dentistry meets the needs of not only the fearful patient, but the patient that needs several procedures but this or her schedule will not allow for five or six separate appointments,” says Rowland S. Holsinger, D.D.S. “Although dental health is important for everyone, patients undergoing any type of transplant or cardiac surgery must get a clean bill of dental health prior to their surgery. If they haven’t been to the dental in a while that could mean multiple appointments for them,” he adds.
