A series of new laws took effect in Maryland, some involving teenagers. The maximum fine for furnishing or allowing underage drinking or possession of alcohol will increase from $1,000 to $2,500 for a first offense and from $1,500 to $5,000 for subsequent violations. The Motor Vehicle Administration must notify the co-signer of a minor’s driver’s license application for every moving vehicle citation the minor receives. In addition, a learner’s permit’s validity period will increase from one to two years so there is no rush to get a driver’s license.
