Sheriff’s Office Acquires Boat From DNR

“The Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office will now have marine capabilities thanks to the Maryland Natural Resources Police. Superintendent of the Maryland Natural Resources, Colonel George F. Johnson officially delivered the 2001 19 foot Boston Whaler, Evinrude motor and Load Rite trailer on Monday to Sheriff R. Gery Hofmann.

Colonel Johnson stated, “”My highest priority is interagency cooperation and resource sharing, especially in response to the fiscal challenges faced by local, county, and state government. I am pleased that the Maryland Natural Resources Police can, through the transfer of this vessel to the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Department, reflect the policies of Governor O’Malley and Secretary Griffin of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.””

Sheriff Hofmann stated that “”the boat will be used for special events, recovery of evidence and property, searches and investigations as well as occasional patrols and in the event of a natural disaster.”” One of my goals as Sheriff is to have the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office prepared for all types of emergencies and law enforcement calls for service”” added Hofmann.

Selection of a volunteer crew from deputies and auxiliary deputies has begun, and will be followed with training with the Natural Resource Police before the boat is officially placed in service.”
