The board of directors at Shore Health System has given a preliminary endorsement to plans to put a new regional medical center on land north of Easton. Board Chairman John Dillon says some issues remain, but he believes the board has chosen the correct site for the hospital. Shore Health president and CEO Joseph Ross says the decision will be finalized once Shore Health gets assurances about improved highway access to the site and after confirmation that there are no unusual engineering challenges. He says ground likely will not be broken until 2012 or 2013. The site is on county-owned land next to the Talbot County Community Center. Ross says no decision has been made about possible future uses for the existing Memorial Hospital in Easton.
