On Friday, May 15, Shore Health System is hosting a free seminar on stroke prevention from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at The Memorial Hospital at Easton. Free blood pressure screenings will be available.
Featured presenters are neurologist Terry Detrich, MD, and Christina Ball, RN, CNRN, from the Shore Health System Primary Stroke Center at Memorial Hospital.
“Stroke is the third leading cause of death and 750,000 Americans have a stroke every year,” says Ball, coordinator of the Primary Stroke Center. “Someone dies every three to four minutes from a stroke. Knowing your risks and what can be done to prevent a stroke is your best defense.”
Dr. Detrich, medical director for the Primary Stroke Center, adds, “The good news is that 80 percent of all strokes are preventable.” At the seminar he will discuss health conditions and lifestyle choices that contribute to the risk of having a stroke and how the risks can be reduced with the help of a healthcare professional.
Memorial Hospital is located at 219 S. Washington Street in Easton. The stroke prevention seminar will be held in the Nick Rajacich Health Education Center.
