The skipjack Nathan of Dorchester will be offering free sails at Dorchester County’s Heritage Day Celebration on Saturday, May 16. Sails will depart from the vessel’s berth at Long Wharf in Cambridge, at the end of High Street.
Sailing times are noon, 1, 2 & 3 p.m. No advance reservations will be accepted for the event. Passengers may sign up on a first-come, first-served basis at the Dorchester Skipjack Committee booth on High Street in Cambridge beginning at 11 a.m. on Heritage Day.
The free sails are made possible through a donation from the Nathan Foundation. The Foundation funded the construction of the skipjack in 1994 and has continued to be supportive of her efforts through the years.
The Nathan of Dorchester is owned, operated and maintained by the volunteers of the nonprofit Dorchester Skipjack Committee. The organization welcomes new volunteers. Those interested may obtain information about volunteer opportunities at the skipjack’s booth on Heritage Day.
