Skipjack Receives Wal-Mart Support

The Dorchester Skipjack Committee has received a $1,000 donation from Wal-Mart in Cambridge. The all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that owns and operates the skipjack Nathan of Dorchester recently conducted a Sailraising Campaign to fund the purchase of new sails for the vessel. These replaced the original set that has served the boat since she was built in Cambridge in 1994.

Dorchester Skipjack Committee president Dan Cada, left, received the check from Wal-Mart store manager Mike Quillen. Thanking Wal-Mart for its generosity to organizations in the community, Cada expressed his appreciation to all the local businesses that have helped keep the skipjack heritage alive through their support for the Nathan over the years.
