The social workers on staff at Shore Health System are celebrating National Social Work month by reaching out to people whose lives have been touched by the ongoing financial crisis. On Wednesday, March 25, the social workers are hosting a Resource Fair at The Memorial Hospital at Easton between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and at Dorchester General Hospital between 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The fair is free and open to the public.
“While all are welcome, the Resource Fair will be especially useful for anyone who is newly unemployed and for families who have been affected by a reduction in income and an increase in living expenses,” says Patty Plaskon, PhD, LCSW-C, OSW-C, a social worker for Shore Regional Cancer Center. “Everyone who attends will find practical tips for cutting expenses, stretching their resources and negotiating with creditors. We will also offer some simple stress management techniques that anyone can use.”
The social workers will be available for free consultations about programs that offer assistance with the cost of health care and prescriptions. They will also be offering information about household utility programs, tips on managing credit card debt and mortgage payments, and ideas for creating food budgets.
The Shore Health System Resource Fair will be held at Memorial Hospital in the Nick Rajacich Health Education Center at 219 S. Washington Street in Easton. The program will take place in the main lobby of Dorchester General Hospital, 300 Byrn Street in Cambridge.
