your beer by the cup or go for the souvenir value cup.
(Information on safe transportation options will be available
at the block party.)
Entertainment: The block party features live music by
D’Vibe & Conga 7–10pm, along with DJ Chuckie Luv.
Main Street Mile: At 6pm, cheer on the brave competitors
in the Main Street Mile, a hilarious spoof of the two
triathlons that happen in Cambridge each year.
The Main Street Mile:
This wacky relay race, which starts at 6 p.m. during Summer Send-Off gets everybody—competitors and spectators alike—laughing and cheering. The Main Street Mile is a lighthearted (but fiercely competitive!) relay race that has teams from local businesses, organizations, and neighborhoods compete. Each four-person team takes on the terrifying Tricycle Tumble, the suspenseful Snorkel Sprint, and the extraordinary Egg Walk. Despite its name, the Main Street Mile course is actually only about a hundred feet long. The top team wins $100 toward their favorite Dorchester County charity. The team showing the best team spirit wins a gift certificate to a downtown restaurant. Gather your friends, workmates, and neighbors together and form a team. Only the first 12 teams to sign up can compete, so register soon. Download a registration form at www.cambridgemain street.com, e-mail office@cambridgemainstreet.com, or call 410.228.0020. Registration costs $40 per team (all proceeds go to downtown revitalization efforts). Will there be a team powerful enough to topple the three-year champions from the Hyatt?
