Talbot Interfaith Shelter joins Foundation for Community Partnerships

“Talbot Interfaith Shelter is now affiliated with Foundation for Community Partnerships, a community foundation based in Centreville.

As a tax-exempt public charity, the Foundation for Community Partnerships enables people and organizations to establish charitable funds. The new Talbot Interfaith Shelter fund will make it easier for the community to support Talbot County’s first emergency cold weather, while allowing TIS to fundraise more effectively.

“”By operating under FCP’s non-profit umbrella, TIS will not have to worry about writing checks or contend with IRS audits,”” said Evelyn Sedlack of the TIS steering committee. “”Our account can be viewed by the public at any time. Contributors to TIS can make donations online and receive acknowledgments for tax purposes.””

The TIS fund is managed professionally by the Foundation for Community Partnerships, and its assets will grow over time. TIS joins more than 50 community organizations that have started funds with FCP.

“”We were impressed with FCP’s accomplishments in four years, noting that it spends less than 4 percent on administration and 96 percent on direct assistance to regional charities,”” Sedlack said. “”FCP has helped Our Haven, an emergency winter shelter in Chester, to receive impressive grants for its operation and search for a permanent location.””

Rick Lerner, chairman of the Foundation for Community Partnerships and the chairman and CEO of BankAnnapolis, welcomed the establishment of the Talbot Interfaith Shelter fund.

“”The mission of the Talbot Interfaith Shelter fits well within the Foundation’s vision of putting people and their needs first,”” Lerner said. “”We have seen how the charitable groups who establish funds at the Foundation actually change lives with the assistance they provide.””
