Talbot Mentors Invites Potential Mentors To Cook-Out

Talbot Mentors will host a spring cook-out for prospective mentors on Thursday, May 21, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. It will be held at the home of one of the organization’s current volunteers. Anyone interested in learning more about being a mentor is welcome to attend.

The event follows the success of a similar gathering last year, where men of the community were invited to help fill the organization’s need to match volunteers with male students on its waiting list. This year, the cook-out is open to both men and women.

About ten boys and girls are currently on Talbot Mentors’ list of students waiting to be matched. There is a growing number of students from St. Michaels on the list. Volunteers who would be able to work with these youngsters are particularly invited to attend.

Talbot Mentors asks volunteers to commit to one year of being a friend to a child in need of an additional adult presence in his or her life. The informal cook-out setting allows interested individuals to chat with current mentors about their experiences in the program and get a better idea if they would like to make such a commitment.

Guests are welcome to bring their fishing gear to enjoy some recreation at the host’s pond after the cook-out. Registration for the event is required by Friday, May 15. Call the Talbot Mentors office at 410-770-5999 to register or for more information.
