Trappe toberFEST Plein Air Paint Out Plus

The 4th Annual Trappe-toberFEST will be held Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 10am to 4pm. This year, the festival will feature the Trappe toberFEST Plein Air Paint Out Plus, with a painting competition followed by a free demonstration by local plein air artist Diane DuBois Mullaly (www.dianeduboismullaly.com). Paintings may be completed anywhere within the Trappe town limits or the surrounding Trappe District. Paintings will be judged in Professional, Amateur, and Student categories. Any artist may participate in the competition and there is no entry fee—just show up and paint!

Mullaly will also serve as the competition judge. She is a popular plein air artist who has competed multiple times in Plein Air–Easton! “My passion for painting comes from the powerful connection I feel to the landscape,” Mullaly says. “Here, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the marshes and estuaries, and the quality of the light from the big open sky, all tantalize me. Can I reach out and grab them, and reduce them to paint?”

Artists may begin painting at any time on October 17. Completed works must be delivered for judging by 2:00 p.m. to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 3936 Main Street in downtown Trappe. Awards will be announced by 2:30 p.m. and entries will be displayed at an “Art in the Park” exhibit and sale of freshly-painted plein air works. Unsold paintings will be released to the artists at 4:00 p.m.

Mullaly will give a free art talk/painting demonstration from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in front of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The demo is open to any artist or art enthusiast.

Trappe-toberFEST celebrates the harvest season with a day filled with fine art, craft vendors, live entertainment, children’s activities, community service booths, good food and fun for all ages. Festival attendees will get an up close look as artists paint around town during the festival.

The Trappe Plein Air Paint Out Plus is supported by the Town of Trappe and the Talbot County Arts Council.
