Everyone loves to travel and loves to tell people about their adventures: great places to stay, to eat, to site see. Expand your audience of friends and family to a wider group through writing about your experiences in print and on the web. Journalist, editor and travel writer Janice Colvin, will bring a lively and informative course on travel writing to the Centre for the Arts to help get you started on a career as a travel writer. Students will gain invaluable tips on how to get published in newspapers, magazines, tour guidebooks, and on the internet. Learn about what makes an irresistible story and how to establish a byline. Combine writing skills and your passion for travel in this three-day class on Sundays, May 10 through 24, from 12pm to 2:30 pm. The fee is $75 for Arts Council members and $90 for non-members. The deadline for registration is May 1.

Janice Colvin has been the editor of the weekly newspaper The Queen Anne’s County Record-Observer in Centreville, MD since 1997. Prior to that, she was Community News Editor at The Star Democrat, a daily newspaper based in Easton, MD. Colvin writes a column entitled “Shoreside” which is published each Sunday in The Sunday Star Democrat. She holds a Master of Arts degree in journalism and public affairs from the American University, Washington, D.C. and a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the University of Maryland. She has taught at several colleges and for the Arts Council.

The Centre for the Arts classes are designed to renew existing interests, and to develop new skills.
