Trooper Cited In Fatal Eastern Shore Crash

Forty-nine-year-old Trooper First Class Paul Zimmerman, who is assigned to the Easton Barracks, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision. The charge carries a penalty of $130 and three points. Authorities say Zimmerman was responding to an accident in November when his patrol car slid on ice and struck a car driven by 34-year-old Kristin Underkoffler of Delmar, MD. She was killed when her car struck a tractor trailer. Dorchester County prosecutors say Zimmerman has a right to stand trial on the charge and remains on road patrol duties. Following the disposition of the traffic charge, a Maryland State Police administrative investigation can begin.
