Trooper First Class Joshua Resh of the Maryland State Police received the Sgt. Wallace J. Mowbray Memorial Award from the Centreville Rotary Club on May 14. The Rotary Club presents the annual award to a law enforcement officer serving Queen Anne’s County. It is named in honor of Sgt. Wallace J. Mowbray, a Maryland State Police trooper killed in the line of duty in Queen Anne’s County in 1975. Resh’s name will be engraved on a plaque displayed in the Queen Anne’s County Circuit Courthouse. Five officers were nominated for the Wallace Mowbray award, including Correctional Officer 1 Daniel Andrew of the Queen Anne’s County Department of Corrections, Patrolman First Class Charles Larrimore of the Centreville Police Department, Officer David Bahr of the Maryland Transportation Authority Police, and Deputy First Class Michael Pinkosz of the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office. Knight said the nominations are reviewed by a committee of Rotarians, none of whom have a connection with law enforcement.

Knight read four accounts of major police incidents last year in which Resh played a role. In August, Resh and a second officer apprehended a bank robbery suspect off Winchester Creek Road in Grasonville after a lengthy car chase on U.S. Route 301. In November, Resh apprehended a carjacking suspect who drove east across the Bay Bridge, then south on state Route 8 to Romancoke and crashed into a barrier, then jumped into Eastern Bay. In December, Resh apprehended a man with a knife in Stevensville. In November, Resh prevented a woman from jumping off the Bay Bridge. The award was presented at the Rotary Club’s breakfast meeting at Centreville United Methodist Church.
