Town officials in Oxford figured out the cause of a clog in the town’s sewer system earlier this month. It was a six-inch turtle. Public Works Director Scott Delude says crews had to shut down the sewage treatment plant for two days until they were able to use a high-pressure water jet to dislodge the turtle from a valve. Delude says the plant closing didn’t affect area residents, but the clog could have created a municipal backup. The turtle did not survive.
