Two Contests Offer Opportunities For Writers

The Maryland Writers’ Association announces two contests open to all writers – one for the novel, the other for shorter works. Each contest will not only offer cash prizes to winners, but public recognition at the Maryland Writers’ Association (MWA) Annual Meeting on June 11.

The 2008 MWA Novel Contest offers writers the opportunity to prepare their manuscript for an agent or publisher as they prepare their manuscript in just the same way for the contest. There is a fee for the contest, but multiple winners will receive cash prices. The deadline is February 28.

The MWA Short Works Contest is an opportunity for authors of shorter works to share their craft – and win cash prizes and peer recognition. Categories include short fiction, poetry, essay, and editorial essay. The works must be 3,000 words or shorter, and the deadline is March 14.
