Four sites on the Eastern Shore have been added to the National Park Service’s list of places to see along the Underground Railroad, a series of secret trails and paths used by abolitionists to get slaves safely to freedom. One of those sites in Queen Anne’s County is Belle Vue, a 19th century property that was home to seven slaves who tried to seek freedom in 1855. The Stories of the Chesapeake is encouraging people to make maps of all the Underground Railroad locations and take a day trip to learn some of the history.
