The 3rd Annual Trappe toberfest will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, October 18, in downtown Trappe. This small town fall festival celebrates the harvest season with a day featuring a street fair, plenty of food, fine art, children’s activities, demonstrations, and live entertainment, including a free bluegrass concert from 3-6 p.m.
Booth space is available for food, craft, and product vendors. Standard booth space is 10 feet by 10 feet, with registration fees starting at $10. Corporations donating $250 or more are invited to set up an information booth. Select booths for nonprofit groups are available at no cost. Deadline for registration is October 6, 2008.
Vendors will line Main Street and other locations amidst other activities, including two stages presenting a wide variety of live entertainment for all ages. A children’s arcade will offer plenty of fun with bouncy rooms, pony rides, a climbing wall, face painting, crafts, mural painting and more. Other festival activities include the Trappe Plein Air Paint Out, Tour de Trappe cycling event, and visits from special guests throughout the day. A demonstration area will feature demos throughout the day, such as K9 police dogs, rocket launching, line and swing dancing, sand sculpting, and a handmade calliope. Topping off the demonstrations will be a rematch between the Fair Plays Vintage Base Ball Team and Trappe Little League coaches, which starts at 4 p.m.
Emergency vehicles, including a Medi Vac helicopter and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) vehicle will be on display. The Trappe Volunteer Fire Department will host a Fire Prevention Month Open House, featuring health and safety demonstrations and a quilting demonstration and raffle by the Seven Sisters Quilting Guild.
New this year, and sure to draw a crowd, are hot air balloon rides offering the chance to view the festival and surrounding waterways and countryside as a tethered hot air balloon rises about 100 feet above the town.
