Venomous Caterpillar Stings Stevensville Woman

Talley Fulghum, a 40-year-old resident of Stevensville, was pruning a tree when she was stung by a venomous caterpillar and could not stand up after 30 minutes. She was taken to an urgent medical care facility in Chester where she was treated and released. The caterpillar was identified by the University of Maryland Cooperative Extension office as a puss caterpillar, native to Texas. It transmits its poison on contact. The caterpillars have recently been reported in Kent County, but the Health Department says it is not a common issue
