Waterfowl Weekend For Combat Wounded Veterans

Now in it’s third year the Waterfowl Weekend For Combat Wounded Veterans will again be hosted by the American Legion Jeff Davis Post 18 in Centreville MD.

The American Legion will host 4 combat wounded veterans from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C for three days of Eastern shore hospitality. The soldiers are treated to a hero’s weekend of activities. On Friday the Vets are each presented with their own 12 gauge auto shotgun, shoot sporting clays at Shrader’s Bridgetown Manor, followed by lunch and then a released mallard hunt. The evening is then celebrated at the Jeff Davis Post among past and current vets. On Saturday each soldier will participate in a wild duck hunt in Dorchester County, allowing the men and woman to experience freedom from their physical limitations. In the evening the soldiers are then honored at a banquet at Post 18 in Centreville, MD followed on Sunday by a community breakfast.

The vets are provided with lifetime membership in the American Legion, hunting licenses, transportation, shotguns, lodging, meals, etc. Donations are greatly appreciated to offset the costs associated with the weekend.
