Wind Blamed For Sailboat Accident That Killed Occupant

A Queen Anne’s County man died after his small sailboat capsized in high winds on the Eastern Bay. Police say 52-year-old Mark Kodey of Chester was alone in a 12-foot sailboat when it capsized in winds estimated between 30 and 40 knots. A nearby windsurfer was unable to right the boat or revive Kodey. Police say the Grasonville Volunteer Fire Company boat found Kodey and he was taken to Anne Arundel County Medical Center where he died. The windsurfer, 44-year-old Steven Ripkin of Chester, was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
