Wye Parish Offers Culinary Camp

During the weeks of July 7 and July 14, the Wye Parish Culinary Camp will offer a unique opportunity for students ages 12-18 to explore the world of cooking.  Whether a student has never picked up a saucepan or has made many family dinners, the Wye Parish Culinary Camp will present a day camp program for those who want to learn or expand basic cooking knowledge and skills.

The camp will be led by Ms. Kelly Anderson who studied at the American Culinary Federation Educational Institute and spent 8 years as a professional chef. She is the wife of the Parish’s Youth and Family minister.

Ms. Anderson will be teaching middle to high school-aged students the tricks of successful baking and how create wonderful cuisine using the basic recipes and culinary skills that are the key to being a competent cook.  Students will also learn how to set the table for that special dinner.

The hours are 9 to 2.  Week 1 is Monday through Saturday, July 7 to July 12 and week 2 is Monday through Saturday, July 14 to July 19.  Week 2 is more advanced and is for students who have completed week 1 either last year or this year.  The students will demonstrate their newly acquired skills by hosting a dinner for their assembled parents on Saturday, July 12 for week 1 and Saturday, July 19 for week 2.  Space is limited to 12 students for each week.  The camp will be held in the large, well-equipped Parish Hall kitchen of Old Wye Church in Wye Mills.

The cost of this session of the Camp is largely underwritten through the generosity of parishioners and therefore the tuition for the Camp is $75.00 which must accompany the application.  Applications for the camp must be received by June 27.  For more information or for an application, please contact Wye Parish at 410-827-8484 or wyeparish@toad.net.
