Talbot Mentors hosted its first annual Hardwood Classic Basketball Tournament on Saturday, April 18, at Easton High School. Five teams from the community competed in five-on-five games, with proceeds benefiting Talbot Mentors.

In the first game, the Easton Police Department team defeated the team from Talbot County Department of Corrections. After the Generals won the second match, defeating the Countywide Ballers, they went on to compete in a final game against the Youth All-Stars.

The All-Stars bested the Generals 72 to 63, winning the first Hardball Classic trophy.

Diana Trams, Talbot Mentors Executive Director, thanked the event’s sponsors for making the tournament possible, including Coca-Cola, Giant Food, Ledo Pizza, Pepperidge Farm and The Athlete.

The organization’s mentors and mentees participated by selling tickets and food at the event. A raffle raised additional funds for Talbot Mentors’ summer camp sponsorships for students in the program.

“This was a fun way of inviting the whole community to get involved in mentoring,” said Trams. “Thanks to all the team members who gave up a beautiful spring day to support Talbot Mentors, and special thanks to Jermel Bailey, who helped organize the tournament. Everyone who came out to cheer for their favorite team saw some great basketball.”
