The Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD has announced its concert offerings for the 2012-2013 year. The concert season will kick off with Stephen and Elisa Campbell musical theater duo singing songs of WWII on Friday, October 12, 2012. The Friday night concerts include hors d’oeuvres at 5:45, followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and a concert at 7 p.m. Elisa and Stephen will perform with acclaimed jazz pianist Mark Meadows to bring you your favorite hits from the 40’s.
On October 28, 2012 at 3 p.m. the Museum will present a Sunday afternoon concert by the Lester-Nathanson Trio. Oxford’s cellist Denise Nathanson is joined by pianst Noel Lester and violinist RoseAnn Lester for works of Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and Brahms. The Trio formed in 1998 while all three members were on staff at Hood College. Nathanson, who performs chamber music across the Shore, is currently the Performing Arts Coordinator at the Academy Art Museum. Pianist Noel Lester, who has performed throughout America, Europe and Asia, is currently the Artistic Director of the Maryland Concert Opera and the Hood College Summer Chamber Music Festival. Violinist RoseAnn Lester is the adjunct instructor of violin and viola, director of the String Ensemble and director of the Preparatory Music Division all at Hood College, as well as is active as a recitalist and chamber musician throughout the state.
On October 29, 2012 at noon, the Box Lunch Music Lecture series will resume with Annapolis Symphony Orchestra in Residence Gabriela Frank speaking of her fascinating story and writing classical music. Another Box Lunch Music Lecture will be held on November 5, 2012 at noon with Dr. Rachel Franklin who will ask the question “who is afraid of modern music!?” She will include famous stories of premiers of now favorite works. The cost is $60 for Museum members and $70 for non- Museum members for the two-part series and $35 for Museum members and $45 for non-Museum members for individual lectures. Reservations are required and include a box lunch.
The Museum’s Music and Tea Series offers a full afternoon tea by Oxford Greens and a variety of performances by accomplished artists. On December 12, 2012 at 1 p.m., baritone Jeffery Grayson Gates will sing sacred and secular songs of the season. On Wednesday, April 4, 2013 at 1 p.m., Music and Tea will feature the Peabody Honors Ensemble which will usher in the season with a selection of music to welcome spring. Reservations are required for both. The cost is $48 each for Museum members and $83 each for non-Museum members
The Friday Night Concert Series continues on Friday, January 25, 2013 with the The Peabody Consort, directed by Mark Cudek, which will explore the transition from the secular music of the late middle ages to the Renaissance. The consort will perform on lutes, Renaissance guitar, recorders, Renaissance flute, vielle, and viola da gamba. Award-winning instrumentalists including Brian Kay, winner of the Lute Society of America’s 2011 Emerging Artist competition, will accompany counter tenor extraordinaire Daniel Moody, who also sings at Washington’s National Cathedral. On Friday, March 22, 2013, The Russian Trio, Silver Medalists and Audience Favorite in the 2012 Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition, will perform. The group, formed in September 2011 at the Peabody Conservatory, has won over audiences internationally with exuberant and stirring performances. Reservations are required. The cost is $55 for Museum members and $90 for non-Museum members for each concert. Hors d’oeuvres are at 5:45 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m., followed by the concert at 7 p.m.
The Box Lunch Music Series continues on March 11, 18, 25, 2013 at noon with Dr. Rachel Franklin, who speaks with great knowledge and humor on the great symphonic works. The cost for the three-part series is $90 for Museum members and $125 for non-Museum members. The cost for individual tickets is $35 for Museum members and $45 for non-Museum members per lecture. Reservations are required and include a boxed lunch.
