Academy Art Museum Offers Lecture on Renaissance and Baroque Fountains

On Thursday, April 14, 2011, at 6:00 p.m., the Academy Art Museum will offer a lecture, “The Art of Water: Fountains in Renaissance and Baroque Italy,” by Anatole Tchikine. During the Italian Renaissance, fountains became important features for artistic expression. They were often the focal point in the villa gardens of the Medici and their aristocratic peers in the 15th and 16th. This dramatic sensibility reached even greater heights in the fountains of Rome, Naples and the other capitols of Baroque Italy. Professor Tchikine will highlight some of the major monuments of the era and chart the development of this pleasing and complex form of art. His talk will include both modern photographs and the period images. The cost is $35 for Museum members and $40 for non-members. Reservations are required.
